Nov 18, 2009 How to find out from the logs what caused system shutdown E.g. I'm seeing this in /var/log/messages: Mar 01 23:12:34 hostname shutdown: shutting down for system halt Is there a way to find out what caused the shutdown? E.g. was it run from console, or linux - mail.log size keeps increasing drastically 1 day ago · Suddenly in the past few days, i could see the mail.log(linux server) keeps growing drastically (10 gb a day). On checking the logs it contains nothing but the below lines. I suspect the issue with sendmail but i am not sure why the logs are growing in this rate. the Delivery shows to=postmaster. both mail.log and syslog has the same below logs.
